Design Room/The Ecology Center

Design Room
Design Room

We're putting together a timeline/educational/inspirational display in The Ecology Center's design studio. The room itself is an educational space that accommodates a variety of uses including teaching on a blackboard, workshops, luncheons, hanging out and design consulting. The space is intended as a studio where in the future design/construction/landscape/sustainabilty professionals will have office hours to consult local residents on private projects. The room is in a house from the 1870s on one of Orange County's last working farms (South Coast Farms), the house being the domain of The Ecology Center.

So far, the main idea behind the installation centers on a series of sort of curio boxes that set narratives on specific topics. The topics are Waste, Water, Shelter, Energy, Transportation, Environment and Culture, and are part of the center's educational mission teaching people about sustainability through design and practical solutions at home. Each of these topics have a timeline that places them historically within the region and society/environment at large. The boxes will contain images, objects, water samples, soil samples, taxidermy, etc. etc. etc., and will be the starting point for explaining the timeline and concepts behind each topic.

Frame 2

Supporting the boxes will be additional framed images/ephemera that connect to tell the story of each topic/timeline.

This is the starting point, any ideas???
